Unseen Bits Of Beau Geste[edit]

I haven't seen "Marty's Funnier Version" , as eluded to by Michael York , but there is a clue to at least one cast member whom didn't make the final cut. I have a selection of publicity photos from the film , they have the cast stamped on the back , and apparently John Cleese was supposed to be in the film! I'm not sure , if he was cast then backed out before production finished - OR - if he actually was in the film before Universal edited it? Or perhaps he just wound up on the cutting room floor altogether. Can anybody else shed a light on this? Harvey J Satan (talk) 02:49, 27 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Getty Images have a series of photos of John Cleese on set, in Ireland, having his mustache shaved off for the film. Other images show him in a Sherlock Holmes-type outfit. His only onscreen appearance is in the courtroom scene, sitting at the very back of the gallery next to Ann-Margaret. He has no lines. Perhaps he did more … but to what extent is unknown. ( It does seem odd for Cleese to shave off the mustache, only to have an uncredited, non-speaking, background cameo.) 75.106.32.81 (talk) 21:57, 30 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
