Clusters[edit]

In re cluster chords: There are very few clusters in this piece. None is larger than a minor third, and they are clearly transitional, not destinations or points of repose. This is in comparison to Penderecki, whose clusters are often large (an octave or more) and climactic.

"The quarter note rhythm in each part is divided in an almost serial manner": That Ligeti rotates the subdivisions of the beat through the four sections (SATB) is an interesting finding, but what does it mean, or imply, or even suggest? Without some comment as to its function it's not analysis, only observation.
