On 23 October 2023, it was proposed that this article be moved to International reactions to the 2023 Hamas attack on Israel. The result of the discussion was not moved.

Instance of conflicting phrasing in Evacuations of foreign nationals section[edit]

In the section on evacuations of foreign nationals there is a line:

On 12 October, the United Kingdom arranged flights for its citizens in Israel; the first plane departed Ben-Gurion Airport that day. The government had said before that it would not be evacuating its nationals due to available commercial flights. However, the flights were commercial.

This phrasing seems confusing, and perhaps it is too concise. The BBC article it cites [1] says:

The UK government said earlier this week it would not arrange evacuation flights because commercial routes were still available. But British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, EasyJet, Ryanair, Wizz Air, Air France, Lufthansa and Emirates have all suspended flights in recent days. ... The government-arranged flights will be chartered by the Foreign Office but are commercial services. Each passenger will be charged £300.

I suggest that the following replace this line:

On 12 October, the United Kingdom arranged flights for its citizens in Israel; the first plane departed Ben-Gurion Airport that day. The government had previously said that because commercial flights out of Israel were still available, it would not arrange evacuation flights for its nationals. However, once most commercial airlines began suspending flights out of the country, the British Foreign Office arranged chartered flights using commercial services.

Under international reactions, South Africa, the last line states that the ICJ ordered that Israel stop its offensive completely. However, that is incomplete and incorrect. The ICJ, in May 2024, ruled 13-2 that Israel must cease any operation which may cause destruction to Palestinian life, in part or in full. The subtle difference may be subtle, but it's a difference nonetheless.
