International Telecasts in 1969[edit]

I am searching for additional credible sources to support the often quoted "fact" that the 1969 telecast was the first shown internationally. First, the Oscars was telecast in Canada and Mexico prior to 1969. Second, I wonder if there might be some confusion between the year of the broadcast and the year of the nominated films. Is it possible that the 1970 Oscars telecast, which awarded 1969 films, was the first for wider distribution of the telecast outside North America, some live and some by tape? At the opening of the 42nd Academy Awards in 1970, the President Gregory Peck announces that for the first time Mexico and Brazil will join the United States and Canada in watching the ceremony live, and that 40 countries will watch it later on videotape or film. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hEnAY6tqSBA Wiredwidget (talk) 21:48, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
